Abridged Sunday London Market Tour

At least once a month I make a trip into the city early on a Sunday morning when there are few people about, it feels more intimate, just me and London town. I take photographs and wander around the markets, walking the streets in search of new discoveries. It's my me time, where I explore… Continue reading Abridged Sunday London Market Tour

£50 a month for food is very possible

Food can be as expensive as you want it to be. If you don't plan, have a list or shop around then you will always pay more.  Savings never fall out of the sky; you have to do a little legwork.  I always use an ingredients list for the week or month, spend a… Continue reading £50 a month for food is very possible

Final Week – Some Lazy Treats

When I have mentioned the challenge, guesses on how much a plate of food costs have varied from 50 to 80 % out (they have all guessed more expensive). To the extent that I think I'll consider a pop-up as I'd clean up 😉

Week4-Eat for £50 a month-Final Week

By now I hope you will have mastered a few of the previous weeks recipes and even perhaps given them some of your own little twists.  I have found that it is often the simple and easy recipes which are the ones I return to again and again as they provide the best flavours.  So… Continue reading Week4-Eat for £50 a month-Final Week

Week3-Eat for £50 a month-Recipes 1-5

My introduction to Italy was a trip from Napoli to Amalfi where the food made me sing.  The ingredients are often humble but with the most amazing flavours, my love story with Italy didn't begin with a cute guy called Giovanni (even though he was nice) but with a brioche and an amazing plate of lemon spaghetti… Continue reading Week3-Eat for £50 a month-Recipes 1-5

Week 2 – Eat for £50 a month, recipe 6-7

I have founds so far on this challenge that I am rather partial to lentils and that's not just because they bulk out a meal and are cheap but because they are yum and research has found they are exceedingly good or us.  I love potatoes and eggs and I eat both a little too… Continue reading Week 2 – Eat for £50 a month, recipe 6-7

Week2 – Eat for £50 a Month Recipes 1-5

My list for the week has changed a little, but not too much that I have had to change the menu posted yesterday (summer greens replaced with salad and lemons with limes).  I have managed to purchase some great frozen fish for £3.25 at Asda. I also have quite a few eggs left… Continue reading Week2 – Eat for £50 a Month Recipes 1-5

Week 2 – Eat for £50 a Month Challenge

Today is the end of the first week of the £5o a month challenge and I am feeling a little smug as on the whole it's been a resounding success. Two friends & some of their friends are all set to sign-up, after one came round for dinner last week and sampled the meatballs and the… Continue reading Week 2 – Eat for £50 a Month Challenge

Day 6-7 Eat For £50 A month Challenge

It's rather hot in London today! and hotter in my kitchen where I've had trial and error with recipes, requiring a few changes due to the remaining items still available on the shopping list.  I do think however that I have managed to conjure up a few tasty, healthy treats "high five to me", or perhaps a… Continue reading Day 6-7 Eat For £50 A month Challenge

Eating Smart ‘Thrifty,Healthy,Simply’

I committed a little while ago to pulling together a menu for a month that was healthy, fairly local, easy to cook, economical to cook and that the total monthly spend would be £50 for 1 person. This would consist of £10 for the main store cupboard items and £10 a week for fruit/veg/protein etc. I know it's possible to live off of £10 a week with a little effort but it was the making it easy and 1 pot and and.....
